Examination Scoring

The ABDSM examination is scored by the Board of Directors with input from subject matter experts and psychometricians. All scoring is performed without knowledge of the applicants’ identities. Scoring is not done on a curve or based on a pre-determined percentage of questions answered correctly.

 
Examination Results

Applicants are notified of their results via a letter sent by regular mail. Exam results are not available by telephone or email.

Applicants are informed of whether they achieved a passing score on the exam or did not achieve a passing score. The ABDSM does not provide applicants with their score on the exam or individual questions and does not release the score required to pass the exam.

 
Appeal Procedure

Applicants may appeal a failed exam result by submitting a written explanation refuting the result along with a nonrefundable appeal fee of $395.00. The appeal must be made within 30 days of the date of the exam results notification letter. All appeals are reviewed by the Board of Directors and all decisions of the Board of Directors are final.
