This webinar will discuss the tools available in clinical practice to aim at selecting the right treatment for the right patient. For oral appliance therapy (OAT) in particular, there is the need for more predictable, and personalized approaches and to move away from ’trial-and-error’.

This webinar will focus on the role of anthropometrics, clinical and dental parameters, drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) and polysomnographic pheno-endotyping bringing a thorough understanding of the method of a more precise and personalized prediction of OAT outcomes in a prospective way for individual patients.

Olivier Vanderveken, MD, PhD

Target Audience: ABDSM Diplomates interested in using precision medicine approaches, including DISE, phenotyping, and clinical predictors, to optimize patient selection and improve oral appliance therapy outcomes for sleep-disordered breathing.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of anthropometrics that includes the basis findings of the dental and clinical examination, and the results of a recent sleep study, in the prediction of treatment outcomes of OAT for SDB.
  2. Identify the specific findings during a drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) that are associated with a better or worse outcome of OAT for SDB - in addition, the DISE profiles that are associated with the outcome of other SDB therapies such as hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy and other sleep surgeries will be discussed; and
  3. Summarize the most important aspects regarding the SDB pheno-endotypes that can be derived from a sleep study in a non-invasive way, and their role in the pro-active prediction of OAT treatment outcomes.
